2015년 9월 마지막 주 David Gilmour의 새 앨범 'Rattle That Lock'은 발매 2주만에 UK 앨범 차트 1위에 오른다. 2014년 Pink Floyd 마지막 앨범 'Endless River' 에 이은 연타석 힛트다.
 
9월 29일 BBC Two 'Later... with Jools Holland'에 나와 새 앨범 타이틀 곡 <Rattle That Lock>과 <The Girl In The Yellow Dress>, <Today>, 이렇게 3곡을 연주한다. 1946년생이니 남진이랑 동갑이다. 우리로 치면 가요무대에 나올 양반이나 그는 여전히 현역이다.
나이는 숫자일 뿐이고 클래스는 영원하다는 사실을 깨닫게 한다.

한편, Wall Street Journal과 인터뷰(2015.9.14)에서 David Gilmour는 'Rattle That Lock'의 의미를 자유를 옭죄는 현대사회와 경찰국가로 변해가는 정부에 대한 비판이자 protester에 대한 헌사(exhortation)로 설명한다. 고개가 끄덕여지면서도 여전히 난해한 상징과 비유에는 고개를 젓게 한다. 

다음은 Wall Street Journal에 실린 David Gilmour 인터뷰 중 일부다.

Your new album is called “Rattle That Lock.” What’s the meaning behind the title?

[My wife] Polly wrote the lyrics for the song and we titled the album after that. It’s about shaking free of the constraints against us in the modern world. Particularly in the U.K., where protest is being stamped on rather harshly by our governments. I guess it’s an exhortation for people to rebel against the constraints that are being laid on us. People who go out and protest in a perfectly reasonable way about things they are upset about get stamped on rather hard these days in this country. It feels like it’s moving more toward a government-inspired police state.

Why is that?

I don’t know. It’s a strange time. I can see that security in all our countries has to be quite high on the list but I don’t think crippling students for protesting tuition fees and anything else they feel like - any of the injustices going on the world - should be allowed.
