공교롭게 이 노래가 공개될 즈음 영국과 아르헨티나 사이에 포클랜드 전쟁이 발발했다.
대영제국 만세를 외치며 애국심을 고취하거나 전쟁을 찬양하는 노래는 전혀 아니다.
전쟁을 반대하는 메시지가 강하게 담겨 있다.
전선 뒤에서 훈장을 만지작거리는 장군들을 조롱한다.

그들 가슴에서 번쩍거리는 훈장은 병사들 희생의 댓가다.
