Helpless, helpless, helpless.

In 1996, our band played at the annual Bridge Benefit Concert founded by Neil Young. At concerts end we joined with Neil to sing 'Helpless'. It was a moving experience and the song has ever remained with me. We were recording at Lobo, a great studio on the lower East side with our favorite Hispanic restaurant on the corner. We'd a frustrating session. I noticed our drummer's accordion resting on a chair; a simple, humble instrument. Our guitar tech, Barre Duryea, was sitting on the floor, repairing the bridge of a telecaster. We decided to record 'Helpless' to restore our sense of community: Lenny on the classical guitar he'd found in Argentina, Tony on keyboard, and Jay Dee on accordion. Barre joined us on bass and his concentrated energy was very centering. 'Helpless' is live, with gratitude to Neil.
