동네친구 Rod Argent(1945/6/14)와 Colin Blunstone(1945/6/24)을 주축으로 5인조로 출범(당시 평균연령 18세) 

이들의 고향인 St.Alban에서 개최된 록그룹경연대회에서 우승(Herts Beat Rock Group Competition) 

부상으로 받은 데뷔앨범취입권 획득(Decca Records) 

데뷔싱글(She's Not There/Rod Argent작품/1964/7/24)과 "I Love You"(1965/9/3/베이시스트 크리스 화이트/작품) 그리고 유일앨범(Odessey & Oracle)에서 싱글커트된(Time Of The Season)등 단 세곡으로 단숨에 스타덤에오르는데... 

후에 "I Love You"는 "People"에 의해 "She's Not There"는 "Santana"에 의해 다시 불리워져 주객이 전도된셈...
