(1949/5/18-)런던태생 

피아니스트의 아들로 태어나 자신의 아들도 건반악기주자로 활동중이니 3대로 내려오는 음악가문인셈... 

4세때부터 렛슨을 받기시작 "왕립음악원"(Royal College Of Music)에 영재로 입학했으나 더 배울것이 없어서 일까(마치 마일스 데이비스가 줄리아드를 박차고 나오듯) 그는 학교를 떠나 데이빗 보위/캣 스티븐스/마크 볼란 등 당대의 슈퍼스타들의 세션을 담당 약관 20세에 스트롭스의 일원으로 스타덤에 오른다. 이후 Yes로 스카웃당해 세계적인 명성을 얻어냈고 73년 "헨리 8세의 여섯왕후"로 솔로데뷔 현재까지 고전음악을 제외한 장르에서 최고의 피아니스트란 찬사를 받고 있다.
